Coloured, Decorative & Patterned Window Films
Transform Glass into a Design Feature
Glass plays an important role in modern architecture, helping create open, light-filled spaces. Decorative window films allow that glass to become a design feature, introducing colour, texture and pattern without the need to replace the glazing. These films can replicate the appearance of coloured glass, etched finishes, textured surfaces or patterned glazing, providing a flexible and cost-effective way to enhance windows, doors and internal glass partitions.
Through our extensive supplier network, decorative films are available in a wide range of colours, textures and patterns. Options include architectural finishes such as 3M Fasara™ glass films, geometric and striped designs, gradient films that fade from opaque to clear, and dichroic films that create colour-shifting effects depending on the viewing angle and lighting conditions. Films can also be precision cut into shapes, patterns or logos, allowing decorative designs, branding elements and privacy features to be combined within the same installation.
Decorative window films are widely used in both residential and commercial environments. They are commonly installed on front doors, bathrooms and internal glazing in homes, as well as office partitions, meeting rooms, retail shopfronts, hospitality venues and public buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you see through decorative window film?
It depends on the film type. Some decorative films are translucent or patterned, allowing partial visibility through the glass, while others are opaque or coloured, which significantly reduce or completely block visibility. During our assessment we’ll help you choose a film that achieves the right balance between design, privacy and light.
Will decorative window film reduce natural light?
Most decorative window films are designed to maintain natural light while adding colour, texture or pattern to the glass. Some darker or opaque designs may slightly reduce light levels depending on the product selected. In certain situations, fully opaque or blockout films can also be used where the goal is to completely eliminate both visibility and light.
Where are decorative window films commonly used?
Decorative window films are widely used in offices, meeting rooms, reception areas, retail stores, hospitality venues and residential interiors. They are commonly installed on glass partitions, doors, shopfronts and feature glazing where design and privacy are both important.
What are gradient window films?
Gradient films transition gradually from opaque or frosted areas into clear glass, creating a fade effect across the glass. They are commonly used on office partitions and meeting rooms, providing privacy through the centre of the glass while keeping the space open and light.
What are dichroic window films?
Dichroic films are specialty decorative films that shift colour depending on light conditions and viewing angle. These films are often used in architectural and design applications to create striking visual effects on glass partitions, feature windows and interior glazing.
Can decorative window films be custom designed?
Will there be joins in the film?
Many installations can be completed without joins, however the maximum sheet size depends on the roll width of the selected film and the size of the glass panel. If the glass exceeds the available film width, a join may be required. If this is likely, we will discuss it with you before installation.
What brands do you use?
AlpineTint is an authorised installer for 3M and Solar Gard, two of the most respected manufacturers in the window film industry. For decorative and coloured films we also work with specialist architectural film and vinyl manufacturers including Metamark and Avery Dennison, allowing us to select the most suitable product for each project.
Is the film installed on the inside or outside of the glass?
Decorative window films can be installed on either the inside or outside surface of the glass, depending on the type of film, the glazing and the environment it will be exposed to. During our assessment we’ll determine the most suitable installation method to ensure the best appearance, performance and lifespan.
Can I purchase the film and install it myself?
Professional installation is recommended, as achieving a clean finish and long-term performance requires specialised tools and techniques. AlpineTint typically installs the films to ensure the best results and warranty coverage.
Will my film bubble after installation?
Immediately after installation you may notice small water pockets or haze while the film cures. This is normal and typically clears within a few days to a few weeks depending on conditions.
Yes. Decorative films can be precision cut into shapes, patterns, logos or custom designs, allowing them to become part of the interior design or branding of a space. This is commonly used in offices, reception areas, retail environments and hospitality venues.
What’s the difference between professional window film and hardware or online store film?
Professional architectural films are designed for consistent appearance, long-term durability and reliable adhesion. They are also typically available in wider rolls, helping minimise joins and produce a cleaner finish on larger glass panels. Selecting the correct film also requires understanding the type of glass and environment it will be applied to, which is why professional assessment is recommended.
